KARPATHOS, 2009 WORLD SPEED SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS

We had a great competition. the wind stayed in the 30 knots range which made it a bit hard as the wind gets a bit gusty over there. From my side I felt very good on my 47cm gun and my 7,0 and 6,4 sail. I had the 28cm fin with the 7,0 and a 26 cm with the 6,4. The course at Karpathos have us all pointing to get up as close to the beach as possible which is not the easiest dew to the gusty condition. If you have a great gust before the start line to allow you to climb closer to the beach you normally did not get the gust on the run. The opposite happen if you did not get the gust you ended up having to take the outside line and go through the chop but the wind was normally better resulting in higher speeds on the result list.

Some had it hard but thanks to that my board was very easy to ride even in the chop I was able to go the outside line more often and even though it was a bumpy ride my board did not move, no spin out and easy enough to control. I think this was some of the reason why I had always a lot of good runs. Had I stuck with the inside line with less chop it became a luck game, and even though it was faster, I guess up to a knot to a knot and a half but if you did not get the gust you could end up turning around and having to re run all the time.

End of the day I was able to finish 3rd, I was very happy with the result as it really proves that my boards/sails and fins work great. I have been behind the office desk for the past 3 month to get the production up and running and to be able to get on the podium against the best in the world, Well hey!! I'll take it!!It's great!
