Anders Bringdal plans to smash speed world record
Anders Bringdal plans to smash speed world record Team Rider Anders Bringdal has recently returned to Luderitz, Namibia in order to smash the world speed sailing record. On his very first day he already managed to get the most out of the 55 knots of wind, reaching the 50.7 knot’s mark in peak speed. Breaking the Swedish Speed Sailing record with an impressive 47.30 knots attempt over 500 meters, he is now super charged to break the outright world speed sailing record set by Antoine Albeau in 2008.
The organizers of the 2011 Luderitz Speed Challenge have dug a deeper and wider speed trench than previous years, making it possible for the athletes to set new records.
With low pressure moving in towards Luderitz, Anders thinks he can break the record. His dream is not for the faint hearted: with athletes racing in extreme conditions & with very low water levels, any mistake can be hairy with the breakneck speeds reached.
“It’s getting pretty crazy right now. I planned to only stay for a few days, but see that it is possible to get the record with my Mistral production speed board. I don’t know how much faster I can go, but I am getting told that I hold the pride of windsurfing on my shoulders and can’t let us down. I think I can go quicker, so how can I say no to such a great opportunity?”
