Robin Johnston Stand Up World Tour 2011
This May, Mistral Team Rider Robin Johnston will once again be competing in the 2011 Stand Up World Tour. During this epic tour - which takes place in 7 countries & features 8 events (2 times in Hawaii, France, Tahiti, Chile, Brazil, the USA and Australia) – world class riders will compete against one another in order to become the next Stand Up Paddle champion.
Robin (part Hawaiian, part American) got hooked to surfing when he saw a friend ripping the waves at age 5. His mother then took him to Northeast Oahu & taught him how to ride. Since then he has been shortboarding, Stand Up Paddle surfing & became one of Hawaii’s most respected shapers along the way.
Fate brought him in contact with Anders Bringdal - a mutual friend at French SUP magazine introduced them - and consequently landed him a job at Mistral. On top of being a Team Rider, he will possibly also be assisting with the design of Mistral SUP boards and testing the actual prototypes in the future. The negotiations for the latter are in a progressive stage & we will obviously keep you updated on the progress made!
After Hawaii and Tahiti, Robin will be travelling to Chile to take part in the next leg of the competition in 2012. However, he is now in Tahiti and training hard in order to beat Kai Lenny and stiff contenders Leco Salazer & Antoine Delpero. We have it on good authority that the surf is forecasted to come, which should make for some great conditions and mind blowing action.
The Sapinus Pro will take place in Tahiti from the 28th of May to the 5th of June. We are looking forward to seeing Robin pull into it’s 10-12ft barrels & carve his way to victory at the Pointe des Pecheurs. Stay tuned for updates and news on the next event!
