Waseda University third-year student of School of International Liberal Studies. During a stay in the USA as a high school student, she started SUP and is training hard at the Waseda SUP Club. Visiting Spain as an exchange student from September 2017 to April 2018, she was training more than 3 days a week at the Barcelona Beach with her IMOD 12’6.
Yokohama City University third-year student at the International College of Arts and Sciences. After entering the University, she stared SUP. She was long distance athlete during junior high and high school age. After winning the All Japan Student Championship in 2017, she is regularly on the podium.
Edonays Caballero Checa, is one of Panama’s top 5 stand up paddleboard racers and has been participating since 2011. An active sportsman in crossfit and running, he has competed with some success in Panama on the local race circuit and the current National Sprint Champion over 200m. He has trained with top names in the sport who have visited Panama and is dedicated to the growth of SUP sport and to the brand that he loves, Mistral.
James Van Drunen was born in Spain in 1999 of Dutch and English parents. He took up SUP at the young age of 14 and has not looked back since. Living in Spain, he is able to train most days and in competition, he particularly enjoys the longer distances. He is a highly popular figure with an active following. He is involved with teaching and promoting the sport. James participated in some of theEuro Tour events in 2017 and recently spent 6 months in Australia training.
Although she sprints after her young kids, Tatum epitomizes ‘endurance athlete’ and loves any challenge that pushes her to the limit because, she has discovered that the limit is never there. Coming from a river guiding background her love for the outdoors grew and she quickly became a passionate Adventure Racer. She has podiumed or won the majority of the hardcore multisport or endurance races in SA and competed at many Adventure Racing World Championships. With less time to train in the mountains she is spending more time on the water and recently supped the Breede River from Source to Sea. ( 320km) She is now heading to Holland to complete in the 220km nonstop 11 Cities SUP race through the canals and the 5 day stage race.
A fan of travelling, reading, kitesurfing, mountain bike riding, cross fit, eating and drinking with family and friends, Petronella is one of the Netherlands most popular stand up paddlers. She loves downwind paddling and loves challenging race and experiences. ‘For me, SUP offers me freedom to challenge myself mentally and physically while also enjoying the peace as well as the battle with the elements of nature.’ She is the current Dutch National Marathon Champion from 2016 and finished runner up to Seychelle Hattingh in the same year at the 11 Cities event and finished 1st in the Eurotour Namur Long Distance Race, 7th at the Lost Mills Eurotour Race and finished 2nd at the Battle of the Coast Zandvoort Beach Race. She loves being on the ocean or in land.
Ricardo is an experienced paddler, outdoor and watersports person. Since a young age, he has been fascinated by water and outdoor sports. Ricardo studied Sports Science in the Netherlands and then worked as a water sports instructor for 7 years and as a guide for outdoor activities and instruction in stand up paddle, lifeguarding, swimming, snow skiing, sailing, surfing, rafting, canoeing kitesurfing. His SUP school is based at Haarlem and has delivered thousands of hours of SUP lessons from beginner to elite-advanced and downwinding for individuals to corporates to disadvantaged, at a range of locations around the Netherlands.
Janneke Smits is the official SUP Ultra-Distance Queen. A winner 2 years running of the non-stop 220km edition of the SUP 11 Cities (paddling a Mistral Vortex) and recently she set a new world 24hr distance SUP record. In this years event, she will again contest the non-stop edition of the race, paddling our new Mistral Vortex SD1 race board. She will then back up from this and take on the 5 day stage of the event, paddling our Mistral Stealth 17’6″ board as a demonstration of this uniquely brilliant design, complete with rudder system.
